Skin Peels
We use Glycolic Acid peels by Jan Marini. Low concentration glycolic acid products are first prescribed to be used at
home before the course of peels is started. A usual course consists of 6 peels at 2-3 days interval (40% peel). The
stronger peel (70%) procedure is performed at a weekly interval. Price starts from £80.
Peels improve the overall quality of skin and make it blemish free.
FAQs about chemical peels:
WHAT IS CHEMICAL PEELING?
Skin has a few layers of dead cells on its surface. A chemical peel removes the outer layers of the skin. This freshens
the skin, removes some sunspots and rough scaly patches, and reduces freckles and irregular pigmentation.
It also reduces fine wrinkles. There is some evidence that it may reduce the risk of skin cancer. It is safest and most
effective on the face although it can be done on neck and hands as well.
WHAT CONDITIONS DOES IT TREAT?
Fine wrinkling
Brown marks
Freckles and Pigmentation
Age spots and liver spots (lentigines)
Scaly patches
Rough skin (keratoses)
Thin and fragile skin
Sun-damaged skin
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?
The skin is prepared for the peel procedure for 2 to 3 weeks before the peel. This involves a detailed history and
examination by a doctor. Once it is ensured that skin peel is safe and suitable treatment for you, you are provided with
skin products to use at home for 2 to 3 weeks. You then have your first peel.
Skin is first cleaned with a cleanser. This is followed by application of a ‘prepping solution’. The glycolic acid solution is
then applied to the face. After a few minutes, the solution is cleaned off from the skin. A soothing cream is then applied.
IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?
No. Some people experience tingling of the skin, but this is normal. If there is redness and irritation, the solution is
removed from that area of skin and procedure is continued for the rest of the face.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS?
You will notice some flaking of skin as the dead cells come off after 2-3 days of the peel. Maintaining effective hydration
of the skin takes care of this.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME OF THIS PROCEDURE?
There is no downtime for this procedure. You can continue with your normal activities -go to work, attend events, have
a night out -everything you do normally.
HOW MANY PEELS DO I NEED?
We recommend a course of six peels, one every 3-4 days and then a maintenance of one peel a month with home-care
programme is enough for most people to maintain the results. People with rough skin may need more number of peels
in the initial course.
BENEFITS OF GYCOLIC PEELS
Glycolic Peels help to reduce the depth of surface lines, smooth out rough skin texture, help fade
brown spots and assist in drying out acne/blemished skin.
The naturally-occuring "fruit acids" in these treatments will remove dead cells and help unclog pores from
the skin's surface.
Removing this top layer (where most visible wrinkles are) allows the healthier skin cells to come through,
giving a smoother texture to skin and a glowing and radiant appearance.
Glycolic peels help correct sun damage and can also be used to treat the hands, neck and chest from sun
damage. They are also excellent for those with asphyxiated skin (dry on the surface, oily underneath),
aging skin and smoker's skin.
Dry and thin skin
often has a build up a dead cells that actually keep home care products from penetrating.
Glycolic peels remove the surface buildup, hydrating the skin and giving it a more plump, "thicker"
appearance.
Rosacea also improves with glycolic treatments as redness and inflammation subside substantially after
the treatment.
The end result of any glycolic peel is an immediate tightening and brightening of the skin.
There is no downtime whatsoever with a glycolic peel.
You can receive a peel on your lunch hour and return to work.
A person who is in the sun a lot can receive glycolic peels as long as they are compliant with using
a SPF 30 sunblock.
